David and Doreen Perkis started the Staddlestones business in 1987 as a retail Ford dealer employing just five members of staff. In 1996, the Ford brand was relinquished in favour of becoming the Islands only Nissan dealership. Over the next few years we gradually outgrew our premises on Ashey Road and moved to the much larger site of the former Island Car Centre on Brading Road.
After gaining a degree in Civil Engineering and working as a site engineer for Taylor Woodrow, David and Doreen's son Chris returned to the Island to work within the business in 2000.
In 2005 Chris' wife Signe joined the business as our accountant, and in 2007 Staddlestones purchased the Hodge and Childs premises in Bembridge, adding Peugeot and shortly afterwards Daihatsu to their operations. Chris became Managing Director of the Bembridge business.
In 2013 we merged all of our operations onto our site at Ryde, and also added the SsangYong franchise to our offering.
At this time, David and Doreen retired from the day-to-day running of the business, which is now looked after by Chris and Signe.
In November 2014 we opened our brand new building on the Ryde site to house Peugeot and SsangYong, being the first purpose-built showroom to be constructed on the Island for a number of years.
Whilst we no longer represent SsangYong as a new car franchise, we have brought a fast-fit franchise to Ryde in spring 2019, which is a first for the town.
Throughout our time in business we have always retained the same philosophy - 'We simply want to treat our staff and customers in the way we'd like to be treated ourselves'. This has stood us in good stead, and we have won a number of awards from our manufacturing partners for our customer service.
